Play, learn, create, and explore at RSCP
Our Learning Environment
Our preschool is located on the welcoming campus of Rock Spring Congregational United Church of Christ. All classrooms are on the first floor adjacent to the playground, designed especially for a community of young learners.
Classrooms
Each classroom is thoughtfully arranged with spaces for circle time, quiet reading, dramatic play, art projects, and more. Every child has a labeled cubby to encourage independence, as well as spaces for ongoing art projects and science experiments. Classrooms are equipped with sensory tables, age-appropriate toys, costumes, art supplies and more!
The Playground
Our playground is an extension of the classroom, offering children opportunities for movement, exploration, and social play. It includes climbing and sliding structures, swings, a digging patch, a riding area for bikes and push toys, a garden, a wooden playhouse, and a grassy open space. Well-stocked with balls, bikes, and outdoor toys, it’s the perfect place to build coordination and friendships.
The Block Room
The Block Room is a favorite among children, filled with blocks of every shape and size—from large wooden blocks to Duplos. It’s a space for building, problem-solving, and imagination, helping children develop physical, cognitive, and social skills. The room also houses our school library, offering books and resources for both children and adults. Students visit the Block Room regularly as part of their weekly routine.
The Big Muscle Room
Located in Neighborhood House, just across the lawn, the Big Muscle Room provides a safe indoor space for active play on rainy or cold days. Here, children can run, climb, ride, and jump using a variety of equipment—including slides, riding toys, bikes, balls, and parachutes. This space ensures that active play and large-motor development remain part of every child’s day, no matter the weather.
The Digging Patch
The digging patch is a vibrant space designed for young children to explore, create, and connect with nature. Filled with soft soil, the patch encourages tactile exploration as kids use shovels, digging trucks, and buckets to build and shape their creations. Surrounded by natural elements like wooden logs and plants, it inspires imaginative storytelling and free play, allowing children to invent games and collaborate with peers. This sensory-rich environment nurtures creativity and problem-solving skills, making every visit a unique adventure where kids can embrace the joy of getting dirty while engaging in meaningful, autonomous play.
Nature Walks
At RSCP, students have the unique opportunity to walk to nearby Rock Spring Park to explore and engage with nature. Teachers plan these outings thoughtfully, ensuring children are age-appropriate for the walk and that there is sufficient staff coverage to prioritize safety at all times. These nature visits enrich learning through hands-on experiences in a natural setting.
