About Rock Spring Cooperative Preschool

Welcome to Rock Spring Cooperative Preschool, a cooperative preschool with an active community of parents and dedicated teachers where children learn through play.

Our History: Founded in 1943 by a group of caring and inventive mothers, Rock Spring is the oldest cooperative preschool in Arlington. We offer a half-day program with age-specific classes for children eighteen months to five-years-old, as well as Lunch Bunch and Summer Camp.

Our Philosophy: Our philosophy is based on the premise that children learn best through play. We believe the preschool child’s intellectual, social, and emotional growth is best fostered through active play guided by qualified teachers. This philosophy offers:

· A stimulating, natural environment for development and growth.

· An emphasis on nurturing each child’s individuality and joy of exploration and thus learning.

· An opportunity to help each child to gain self-confidence and independence as those are important building blocks of learning.

Our Members: As a member of our cooperative preschool, parents have an unparalleled opportunity to support and participate in their children’s growth. Parents are co-opers in the classroom and in that role serve as the assistant to the teacher.  Parents also participate on various committees that keep our school running. Through these various opportunities one becomes part of a strong, nurturing community.

Our Location: The school is located on the Rock Spring Congregational United Church of Christ campus, at the intersection of Little Falls and Rock Spring roads.

RSCP is a non-sectarian, non-profit corporation.  We are a county and state licensed preschool, and a member of the Virginia Cooperative Preschool Council.
